Review SEP final draft and Data Review | Angela Milano |
The Student Equity Plan will have its second read at the Academic Senate next Thursday and will also be shared with the Student and Classified Senates for additional feedback. - Key data was reviewed regarding disproportionately impacted students. The source of the figures was identified as state data, based on first-time enrolled MIS cohort and not all students. - Concerns were expressed that the data may be skewed due to the post-Covid time period (2021-2022) for Persistence. - Completion data (2019-2020 cohort), noted tracking limitation for students who leave ARC for other colleges. - Student Education Plans, while required now by legislation in the first year have several challenges: students not required to see a couselor, some students advised to have only a brief rather than comprehensive plan. Tech-based solutions are being investigated and potential funding may be available. HomeBase specialists support these efforts and a Starfish referral system is currently in-development. Group counseling/orientation may streamline education plan creation. Need to prioritize students with the highest needs. * Dual Enrollment - working with Melissa on pipeline planning. Many dual enrollment students (CCAP) already on degree pathways. Focus on smooth transition to ARC and identifying barriers. |
-Brenda will present internal data at a future meeting -Angela encouraged all to sign up for NOVA to explore data and strategies. |

Common Course Numbering and CalGETC student communication | Doug Herndon |
- Trainings have been conducted regarding Common Course Numbering and CalGETC with counseling staff, HomeBase staff, outreach specialists and Division staff - Local and district webpages created to explain Common Course Numbering and GalGETC and to encourage students to reach out to counselors for assistance. - Doug Herndon requested that counseling and others reach out to him with student issues. - HomeBases can take up outreach for assisting students to know when they need a counseling appointment. Weak point in the system is that students may not have provided up-to-date contact information. There are no current campaigns to let students know they are overdue for a counseling appointment. - Faculty are and can update their syllabi to provide information on CCN and CalGETC. - Angela reminded the membership that SSC meetings are a place to brainstorm for feedback and to create project teams for issues that need action as well. |
