Student Conduct The state has adopted a new law that permits "a student to be assisted by an adviser if the student receives a notification of an alleged violation of the public postsecondary educational institution’s student code of conduct." Attached is a draft of a Student Conduct Framework. The revised framework now integrates equity-centered policies, data-driven accountability, and the inclusion of advisers for students in conduct cases as required by AB 1575. Additionally, it enhances restorative justice practices and ensures structural alignment with ARC’s broader institutional priorities. SSC will be revisiting this framework multiple times over the next few meetings and soliciting feedback from the Council; it's being shared now as an introduction to what will be shaped into a new campus practice/policy. | David Miramontes-Quiñones & Brian Knirk |
-The Council should review the Conduct Draft. -Student Conduct is transitioning from Instruction to Student Services. -A new AVP of Student Services & Equity (SSE) has been appointed. -The goal is to align Student Conduct with the Student Equity Plan and AB 1575. -Angela Milano (DO Policies) noted upcoming legislative changes: -Students are now required to have an advocate, which they can accept or bring their own. -A stronger emphasis on restorative justice compared to past practices. -The entire student conduct process will be reviewed from start to finish in the next Student Services Council (SSC) discussion. -Policies and regulations R-2441 and R-2442 will be examined to evaluate and refine the process. |
