AB1705 - English Department will provide an update on the implementation of AB1705 and its impact on students. Melissa Diaz, Aaron Bradford, Carina Hoffpauir • AB705 implemented in 2018, eliminating basic skills; subsequent establishment of measures to ensure students' enrollment and success across all classes.
• Addressing issues of students falling through the cracks.
• Utilization of data post AB705 implementation to enact enrollment-related adjustments.
• Significant improvement observed as students could enroll in all four classes, leading to enhanced performance.
• Objective to decrease caps within the district.
• Increased advertising necessary to promote these modifications.
• Implementation of open/free support for Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) assistance.
• Plan to broaden peer support for Instructional Assistants (IAs).
• Introduction of WAC open hours in Learning Resource Center (LRC).
• Proposal to embed IAs currently working in WAC/RAD; two IAs to dedicate one session per week during the 94 portion of classes to support groups and students.
• Initiation of a 5-year research project to evaluate student success pre and post AB705 changes.



Child Development Center (CDC) - CDC Supervisor Chery Watt will respond to questions generated during SSC's March 19 meeting and will share additional information about the CDC. Cheryl Watt • Serve children from 6 months to 5 years old.
• Facility comprises 6 classrooms.
• Staffing includes 10 full-time classified members dedicated to the program.
• Application process entails comprehensive requirements.
• Support provided primarily to faculty for the benefit of students, but also for employees.
• Services encompass class hours, study time, and considerations for working members.
• Presently catering to 80 children.
• Eligibility extends to both online and in-person attendees.
• Multilingual support offered to assist diverse families.


Bias Response Team - Update BJ Snowden • Initiative focused on campus-wide education regarding bias awareness.
• Advisory role to the college president in formulating responses and fostering awareness.
• Facilitation of timely support and collection of pertinent data.
• Objective: Mitigate bias impact on both students and employees.
• Previous meeting held in February; next meeting scheduled for April 22, with plans to include a classified member.
• Commitment to ensuring full representation within the committee.
