DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Question Person(s) Responsible Notes and Next Steps
Review Charter, DI Report Structure, and Timeline Raquel Arata Project Charter
Asking Research Office to break down all API groups
Particularly Laotian, Pacific Islander, and Samoan students are showing to be disproportionately impacted
Question - Who created the Charter or how did it get created?
Patterned after the previous groups’ charters
Project assumptions
Question - Are we thinking of connecting with any community members outside of campus?
No one in mind but it can be considered. Depends.
Did invite Epic Bloom but they were not able to commit
Comment: There are some active members of the community who work on equity issues such as Chinese American Council of Sacramento and Hmong leaders (one who is running for City Council and other is Elk Grove City Mayor)
Comment: A member has some groups in mind but was thinking about student outreach areas in Del Paso Heights or other nearby areas that could be impacted by this
Suggestion/Comment: There are a couple ways these people could be involved
They could either be invited as team members or special guests who present information to us
Question - Do we have interest in inviting a Samoan leader? Response: Yes. Team member will reach out to them.
Timeline
January - rough draft for other governance groups to review
March - official review
Completion by end of Spring semester
The ideal timeline is to have a draft by December but there is some potential to have something available in January instead
Meeting schedule
Team Lead shared rough outline of meeting dates and agendas
Raquel, Neue, and Cheri will be compiling everything based on the information that is provided to them.
Question - In terms of data collection, member would love for our group (member volunteers) to design our own study. Member volunteers to create the survey and send to group for feedback. Member will be happy to work with others on the content. Member is doing a research project for ESL.
Lead - We have the beginnings of a survey draft started. Research office needed a survey draft a couple weeks ago. Neue took the lead on that. Took questions from existing college climate survey and other questions from what other DI teams used last year. Neue can go over this in a future meeting.
Question about why the timeline is the way it is - Lead said it is because it needs to be completed this year, no extensions will be given. The college can then start acting on those recommendations in Fall 2021
Additionally, in order to get through all the councils/senates/etc the report needs to be done in March for their review
