UPDATES AND BRIEF REPORTS:
Topic Person(s) Responsible Notes
Homebase Pathways Communities Adam Karp
-Presentation will be given to SCC and OC tomorrow and was shared with the senates last week. -Homebase pathways communities: based on recommendations from the strategic plan and IPaSS, putting our words to action.
-Achieve: newly entered students aligned by the 8 areas of interest. Similar majors, sense of community, and help transition to college.
-HPC will begin next fall for all students. They are aligned to areas of interest, around redesign work. Clarify the path and get on the path. Handing off from Achieve to the HPC. Students chose the word homebase. Transfer and returning students will be in HPC right away.
These communities can facilitate relationships, which takes time. Building that shared space across the campus. Focused information on programs of study. 6 spaces for the 8 interests. Close proximity to where the students and faculty are. Each homebase will be supported by staff, counseling, peer mentors. Pathway specific counseling, and workshops. Self-registration and paying fees in the homebase, enhanced referrals. Connecting the student to experts etc. Looking at work that is already been done, able to coordinate across the pathway. -Market to the campus in summer 2020; functioning in Aug.
Need IEC to help evaluate the process.

-FAQ document attached for reference.

DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Question Person(s) Responsible Notes and Next Steps
What feedback does the council have on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Homebase Pathway Communities? Adam Karp -Discussed Homebase personnel working at the outreach centers.
-Discussion regarding how to address historically marginalized populations when this is for all students, especially if referencing Strategic Goal(s).
Foundational equity concepts in all Homebases.
Culturally responsive training for staff; environment is important as well.
Communicate goals to staff (such as increasing women in STEM etc.).
-Students need to pick a Homebase but can have an undecided major within that Homebase.
Meeting students where they are.
-Outcomes, expectations for this program; tracking students
-Discussion regarding any available research on effectiveness of similar programs.
-Conversation regarding the wisdom in rolling out the program all at once; harder to track effectiveness.
-Discussion regarding Homebase hours of operation.
-May be harder to direct students to locations that are not within sight of counseling, etc.
-Interest was expressed that Homebase features be rotated to centers (i.e. Natomas) regularly to connect with students close to where they are taking classes there as well
